The earthy green of Malachite has characteristic whorls of colour taken from a vibrant green palette. An opaque stone of singular beauty, malachite calls to mind the vitality of nature through its deep green hue enriched with light and dark banding.

The name malachite is said to derive from the Greek molōchē, a reference to the mallow plant, known for its deep green leaves, or alternatively malakhē, meaning soft. Once seen as a good luck charm, it was offered as a protective talisman to children and travellers.

Malachite has been used architecturally in imperial Russia, notably in the Malachite Room of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg—where columns, fireplaces, and vases are made entirely of the stone.

    Malachite evolves over time and tends to become matte naturally. It is likely that small scratches will appear on the surface of the malachite, since it is a soft, delicate stone.

    Any repeated contact with humid heat, water, perspiration or any abrasive product could alter and whiten the protective surface of malachite. We recommend that you avoid wearing your piece in a hot, humid setting (shower, spa or hammam) and that you keep it away from products such as perfumes, lotions and hand sanitizers.

    To protect its colour and shine, malachite may be gently cleaned using a soft, dry cloth.
